The Battlestar Galactica Case Mod
Fans of the relaunched series better strap themselves in and check for Cylons because we've got the Big G in all of its epic proportions right here at
bit-tech. Brian Carter, aka Boddaker, is no stranger to modding having created such works of art like the
Mystique² and the unique take on a classic mod:
SideView.
Working around a Cooler Master Stacker case, he's just put together a Battlestar Galactica mod that has incredible attention to detail, and uses a vast variety of techniques in its fabrication. Not only that, but the keyboard and monitor are also modded in the same style to complement it.
We've squeezed in as many pictures as we could into the next few pages so you can see the clear progression Boddaker took during his build. We hope you enjoy reading it as much as we have!
Introduction
by Brain Carter, aka Boddaker
The idea to do a case mod in the style of Battlestar Galactica started as a suggestion from a fellow modder on
Boxgods. We had originally intended it to be part of a group themed mod, but things happened and for whatever reason the other mods never materialised. By that time I was too far into the project (and enjoying myself too much) to scrap it, so I forged solely onwards.
Looking at the
Stacker 830 case that I had won from Cooler Master’s case mod contest, I started noticing similarities in its design with the Galactica ship, mainly the triangular inset on the top panel and the ship’s entrance to the landing bay. Messing around in
Sketchup, I took elements from a model of the Galactica (found in Sketchup’s model database), combined them with a Stacker, and came up with a satisfactory design.
